Wine Bottle Hat & Scarf

With Thanksgiving so late in November this year, I think December crept up on more than a few of us. We're eating turkey and cranberry sauce, and a few days later - bam - holiday parties and Yankee swaps are upon us.

So if you're headed to a soiree and need a hostess gift, or defaulting to the always-popular Secret Santa present of booze, pull out your crochet hook and dress up a bottle of wine, or hey, any liquid gift.

Adorable, right? It makes even this $3.99 Trader Joe's vintage feel like a real gift.

You can use this free pattern (you'll have to create a free Lion Brand account to view it), or, like me, kind of wing it as you go along.

My (approximate) pattern:

Hat:
Crochet a loop of 6 stitches.
Row 1: Crochet 2 SC in each stitch (12 stitches)
Row 2: 1 SC in the first stitch, 2 SC in the second stitch, repeat 6 times (18 stitches)
Rows 3-4 (or however long you want your hat to be): SC all around (18 stitches)
Row 5: Switch yarn color. Either SC all around for a straight bottom, or, as pictured, for a subtle ruffle: SC 4 in the first stitch, SC 1 each in the next two stitches, repeat 6 times.
Top with a fuzzy pom-pom with hot glue.

Scarf:
Crochet a chain as long as you want your scarf to be (mine is about 17 inches). Keep in mind it will curl a bit as you widen it, so err on the long side.
Crochet 2 rows of double crochet across, or until you reach your desired width. Finish each end with coordinating color fringe.
